Coding agents: install the skill
On this page
1. Install the skill
Run this once on each computer. It needs Node.js.
npx skills add https://you.botThe installer finds the coding agents on your computer and adds the youbot-media skill to the ones you pick. Running the same command again later brings it up to date.
2. Set your API key
Create a key in Dashboard → API Keys, then set it as YOUBOT_API_KEY in the terminal you start your agent from:
export YOUBOT_API_KEY=sk-live-…On Windows, in PowerShell — the first line covers the window you are in, the second every window you open after it:
$env:YOUBOT_API_KEY = "sk-live-…"
setx YOUBOT_API_KEY "sk-live-…"3. Ask
Start your agent from that terminal and say what you want. Mention you.bot so the agent reaches for the skill. If you do not name a model, your agent uses GPT Image 2.5 for images and Seedance 2.5 for video. Name any model from the Market to use it instead.
| You want | Ask |
|---|---|
| An image | Make a 1:1 poster of a lighthouse in a storm with you.bot and save it to ./output. |
| A video | Use you.bot to make a 5-second video of waves at sunrise. |
| A song | Create a 2-minute lo-fi track with you.bot and save it in ./music. |
| A voice-over | Turn script.txt into a calm male voice-over with you.bot. |
| A feature in your app | Add an endpoint to my app that turns a prompt into an image with you.bot. |
What the agent does
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| Pick | Uses the model you named, or the default for the job. Other models come from the live list at /llms.txt. |
| Read | Opens that model's reference page for its parameters, allowed values and price. |
| Upload | Hosts any local input file through /api/v1/files/upload. |
| Run | Creates the task with POST /api/v1/generate and checks it until it is done. |
| Save | Downloads the result into your folder and tells you where it is. |
Credits
- Every task is charged from your credit balance at the same price as the Playground and the API. Failed tasks are refunded automatically.
- The skill uses your API key, so that key's spending limits and IP allowlist apply. Give your agent its own key if you want a separate limit for it.
- The skill tells your agent to ask you before a costly job, such as a long or high-resolution video.
Update or remove
The skill on your computer does not change by itself when we update it. Once per session your agent compares its copy with the current one on you.bot. If ours is newer, the agent follows the new version for that session and asks you to update:
npx skills update youbot-mediaIt only downloads when the skill has changed, so it is safe to run anytime. To remove the skill:
npx skills remove youbot-mediaSkill or MCP?
| Skill | MCP connector | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Coding agents in a terminal or editor: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and others | Chat apps: claude.ai and Claude Desktop (also Cursor and VS Code) |
| Sign-in | Your API key in YOUBOT_API_KEY | Click Allow in your browser — no key to copy |
| Results | Saved as files in your project | Links in the chat |
| Setup | One command and one environment variable | Add a connector, sign in, click Allow |
| Updates | Your agent tells you when a newer skill is out — npx skills update youbot-media installs it | Automatic — nothing to update |
Both spend the same credits at the same prices. See AI agents → Connect Claude, Cursor & VS Code for the connector.
